Glass Chimney Oil Lamp with Single Wick Burner. This beautiful piece is timeless and would make a great addition to any Nautical Maritime collection. I believe this is a classic anchor lamp that has been used on sailing ships for hundreds of years. Made of heavy-gauge copper and brass, with a Fresnel style lens made to magnify the oil lamp light to be visible for many nautical miles. The anchor lamp is named for its use. A white light is required to be displayed at the tallest mast on all vessels at anchor or under way at night. Today electric lights are used but oil lamps such as this one are still kept on-board ships and yachts in case of electrical failure. Lantern including the handle and guides is approximately 12.5″ tall x 6″ wide x 4.25″ deep 8″. 4.5 diameter at bottom / base. Lantern only without handle is approximately 10.25 tall. Burner and chimney lamp approx. Fresnel Glass Globe on lantern is approximately 4 diameter. Pre-owned, estate find and in good vintage condition. Lantern has wear and patina, no cracks or chips on the outer Fresnel glass globe or the chimney glass, both in good condition, the lamp has oil burner. The bottom turns easily for removal of lamp. Metal chimney top has small area that looks bent – not sure if this was original design or not. Please review photos carefully. And note this is NOT TESTED.
