Rarely seen number 889 Holophane flush mount lights. These lights measure about 7 inches tall, 16 inches wide at the base, and about 11 inches wide near the lens. Each fixture is cast from aluminum and consists of two 10_1/4 glass lenses (patent information can be found toward the end of the gallery photos). They take a standard-base light bulb and diffuse a the light beautifully. These were painstakingly salvaged from one of the last remaining Curtiss-Wright plants in Wood-Ridge, NJ where they’ve hung since World War 2. These lights were mounted on the ceilings and walls of the bays where airplane engines were tested (see photos of the main breezeway leading to the overside garage bays to the left in the photo). The Wood-Ridge plant covered a substantial part of the borough and employed enumerable local citizens. The plant produced wartime supplies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and building rooftops were camouflaged because the site was considered a prime east coast target for enemy planes. These lights surely cast essential light on the men and women who helped to build and secure our nation during a very scary and turbulent time. Surely, their historic value is significant to the right people. We can only imagine these in a row on a wall lighting a pathway or a pool house, along a back-bar, or over tables in restaurant setting or in a kitchen. They’re capable of being paired with bulbs that can light a whole room or accent a more intimate space. These lights would be the perfect space saversunique wall-mounted fixtures to set off your vintage farmhouse kitchen! Theyre a perfect balance of vintage, modern, and industrial! We’re thrilled to be able to offer them in restored condition to our buyers. Each will be carefully disassembled, metal housing blasted and powder-coated (we can finish them in a variety of colors), glass cleaned, and all hardware either cleaned or replaced. Each light weighs approximately 22 pounds–quite substantial. These lights are made to be mounted via bolts to the substrate. Electric was originally supplied via conduit holes on any of the three locations on the side of the fixture. They will be restored to order so please allow for about 2 weeks lead time. Each was salvaged and had seen many years of use and wear. Even after they’re restored, they will still show appropriate signs of use from nearly 80 years of service including scratches, dents, discoloration, nicks, flea bites to the glass, hazing, worn hardware, etc. Each is also authentic, has character, tells a story and shows signs of a lifetime already lived. WestwoodLightingAndSalvage is proud to offer these lights to the public for the first time. Please find us on the web and on FB and Insta. Thanks for checking in!
