Lot 2 SHERWOOD Birmingham SEA LINE Nautical Brass & Copper Lamps + wall mounts

1 chimney is include; other is missing. Note that there is a replacement screw on the 2nd lantern. The chimney is marked FIRE PROOF HEAT RESISTANT FOREIGN. It’s about 5 tall. You might notice that the top rim of the chimney is uneven which I think is part of the manufacturing process. There are 2 very tiny chips at top edge. There’s 1 screw that needs to be loosened to remove the chimney and I was just too weak to turn the screw! It is a bit rusty. Chimney tilts for access to wick which is present. Adjustment knob does work. I think the top assemblys are copper. The bases are very heavy. I believe they are brass. Marked Sealine on front. 3″ tall x 3″ in diameter. Weigh 1 3/4 pounds. I did not clean or polish. The 2 wall mount holders are marked MADE IN ENGLAND. I’m far from an expert but these almost look like brass plated copper? VINTAGE COPPER SHIPS ANCHOR LIGHT (All around white light). Electric Ships Lantern (240v bayonet fitting) working order. By William Harvie & Co Ltd, Birmingham. Original name plate Makers William Harvie & Co Ltd (late of Glasgow) Ships Lantern & lighting engineers, Bishop Street, Birmingham 5, B6961. Materials: Copper, Brass and Fresnel glass. Serial No: B 6961. 360 degree Fresnel Glass is in good condition, with some chips, but no cracks and totally sound. Great overall used condition, with excepted scratches, dints, marks and tarnishing. Dims: 15 H to carry handle and 10 diameter. Difficult to date, but I would suggest 1930 – 50s, so potentially 2WW and Royal Navy. Vintage Antique Ship Brass Binnacle Oil Lamp Light Sherwoods Birmingham Nautical

In good working order. Burns with a nice steady fame. Wick winder works well. Door catch and hinges good. Some blemishes on the glass but no damage. Smoke bell turns ok. Handle slightly distorted but sound and strong. Marked on the porcelain burner and the wick winder for Sherwoods Birmingham. This is much used lamp which is lamp-blacked inside. The brass is dull throughout with the odd bit of verdigris. I have left it as I found it. It comes with about 6 inches of wick which will last you a good while. It is about 26cm tall with the handle up. It is about 10cm wide at the widest point. It weighs about 575g empty. Some tips on usage. For a steady flame do not screw the smoke bell (on the top of the lamp) too tight. Allow air to circulate under the lamp. Standing it on a metal trivet or similar is ideal. Allow the wick to soak up fuel for a while after filling. Do not overfill the reservoir or the lamp may smoke too much when lit. Trim the wick every time you refill by cutting straight across the rop it to remove the brown bits. Always use premium paraffin or lamp oil. (kerosene in the US). The thick, heavy glass is intact and unbroken and without cracks or chips. The Lanterns Measures 17″ Tall x 8″ Wide. The one with burner. On glass says AP199B CB LTD 1944. Can’t see much on brass plate. On burner says SHERWOODS BRITISH MAKE BIRMINGHAM. The one without burner. On glass says AP199B CB1945. On brass plate ANCHOR PATT 5 looks like 902 , ALDERSON &GYDE LTD BIRMINGHAM.
